Random Parts of My Daily Life

More on my belief on politics.

This is the same old argument I’ve been saying for months but I’ll try to put it into different words so you can see where I’m coming from.

To start off, it is in my nature to look at the cause and the effect. We can look around and see real facts about the world around us, data outlining detailed problems in our society. We have data showing drastic increase in income inequality since the mid 90s. This isn’t new with Bush or Obama but has been brewing for the last twenty years. We can all agree that income inequality has very negative outcomes. Therefore, we have an “effect” now where is the cause? One leading cause is how the top richest members of our society has been eating up all possible profits our working class has produce leaving them poorer and the rich richer. Again this isn’t new, it has been starting ever since the mid 80s, I can link articles and graphs if you need it. Therefore, I see it very reasonable to believe that it is due to Reaganomics.

And if you don’t think we can grow with high taxes please ask that to post WW2 USA while we lead the world in GDP all with the highest tax rate we have ever seen.

With higher tax rates we will be able to afford to put NASA back into business and institute proper medicare and support better higher education programs so our nation can actually compete on the global academic field.

I wholeheartedly believe it is a fallacy to think that if we tax the top 10% that our nation wont be able to grow. I believe our nation should be doing everything we can to put more money into our middle class. In short give our consumers more purchasing power. In the last twenty years that hasn’t been the case.

A small note on politics

But all in all I feel morally that as a society we should not make life saving choices based on money, such as whether or not we can pay for it. Any “good” step in that direction I approve.

Lately I’m been looking more about the “well being” of our society as a whole, because me, being apart of it, will be affected by it everyday. Yeah I don’t like the idea of my future tax money going to pay for some kids text books and schooling while their parents buy beer and cable tv. But in the end I might hire him for my business or he will go on and start a one on his own. Therefore, as a society I want to provide everyone an equal chance to pursue an education as quick and cheaply as possible to push our country forward.
The more money college grads owe, the less money they can reinvest back into the society and it slows it down too. Therefore, following this logic in a perfect world we would like them to graduate owing nothing so they can start spending money, investing it, and paying taxes as soon as possible. Sadly most of the western world is already living in this perfect world.

Again there is so much involved that this might be a very good argument in my mind but in real life there are far to many variables to consider..

Sorry for the length.. but I’ve been thinking and reading a lot about all this. I’m still trying to organize and rationalize all this information. Seems like every article or interview I hear on the radio there are two more that contradict it. Trying to logically deduce every argument is starting to be a chore but I feel these are the important issues that the future of our country is based and I’d be a fool not to understand why I believe what I believe.

Ok I’m going to bed.

Logic Class Response

This is a response I posted in my logic class, not at all organized. Thought I’ll post it here too.

First and foremost, I believe our media copyright laws are the biggest culprit and is in need of major reformation. In theory they are to protect rights of artists and the creators of the work but in practice they now only fill the pockets of rich produces. For example it is illegal to sing “Happy birthday” unless you pay royalties to Warner. Why should a publisher continue to make money far after the original creator is long dead? I think it is logical to assume that it should fall under public domain in a reasonable time. These giant publishers of the past decades are holding on to a archaic and false sense of entitlement. With the growth of the Internet and mass communications they are quickly becoming extinct and they are fighting it with everything they have. Instead they need to embrace it, look at the wonderful examples of Steam, Netflix, and iTunes. Where it is far more convenient to pay a small price for a wonderful product than it is to pirate it. And now we have every game publisher out there making steam like products.

But this is a huge subject I could go on and on about why the government should not give in to the entertainment businesses, or if piracy even is an issue, and the benefits of an open-source world.

Therefore, the government should not seek to censor the Internet anymore, seek to reform patent laws, and encourage the media industry to evolve their business model .

“Once more unto the breach”

Coffee is often times my closest friend. A feeling of reminiscence that draws me back down to earth.

It is true that I really enjoy the taste of coffee. I love trying new types and experimenting with all the different flavors and varieties. My favorite still is a dark deep roast that has a slightly natural sweet taste with no cream.

But another aspect of coffee for me is the tradition of the act. The social significances of the symbol of coffee. What it means to have a cup of coffee, not so much as the drinking of the liquid but the social meaning. Throughout my life I have shared coffee with so many significant people that have influenced who I am. In the morning the first thing I do is start brewing a humble pot as my morning ritual. But in truth it helps me hold on to who I am and lets me remember how I got to where I am.

When I sip the morning coffee out of my old mug I see all the unwashed stains of the previous forgotten cups I’ve drank in the past. These reflect my own parts of my life, and I reminisce of all the other times I’ve shared coffee with others and their “stains” upon me.

Creativity

There are many things that I wish for, mainly that to create. I wish I could create stories, art, and music. I love that feeling I get when I start to think of something, that moment when the idea creeps up in my mind and starts to come alive. But its the process of changing that spark into reality that always makes it fade away and become lost.

Today has been relaxing but pretty much I’ve gotten nothing productive done today. Luckily for me I have tomorrow off so I might be able to get stuff done. Ochem test this Friday, really nervous about it.
I have also been looking for a little, fun, addicting game to play with raana. Steam doesn’t really have much for coop. Also today I watched an hour long “lets play” from Crusader Kings 2, it was really amazing to watch and now I’m very excited. It isn’t released until February though..

Today I was rather productive.. which is very strange compared to most “days off” I have.
I sorted through several boxes of things I’ve accumulated over the years. As well as, painted my bathroom step under the bathtub. I have been meaning to do that ever since I moved in. Next step is to rearrange the living room and finish getting my bedroom sorted out. But this is part of the first steps… maybe soon I’ll be able to think of this as my “home”.
Now I need to figure out what to eat, I’m running very low on groceries which is on my to-do list for the weekend. I made rice and veggies few days ago so I can finish those up.
Lets see how productive the rest of the weekend can be..
